Hello Human Beans <3
I am so excited to talk about Ayruveda today! It is something I am learning more and more about everyday and how to implement it into my life. In 2017, I had my first introduction to Ayruveda when I traveled to Hairdwar, India. Now I could write a whole blog post about Haridwar alone, but the most important thing for you to know is that is is the spiritual center of India. It is an ancient city where Shiva himself was said to have pulled the Ganges River from the sky. The city exists at the foothills of the Himalayan mountains and the mouth of the Ganges River.
I traveled to Haridwar, India on a spiritual journey. I attended the 365artist residency and boy was that a magical experience. You can read a little bit about that here--> https://azimvth.org/2018/11/21/the-transparent-reflections/ and I promise stories and knowledge from this trip will unfold in all of these blog posts.
So What is Ayruveda?
Ayruveda is a lifestyle. It is another aspect of yoga, though it is the lesser known. Ayruveda is an ancient science and knowledge that dates back to societies over 5,000 years ago. It is a form of daily practices and lifestyle choices that are curated to keep you healthy in the body so you can then connect with, or work on the mind and spirit.
"Ayurveda is the fundamental root of traditional Chinese Medicine and even the Buddha, himself, utilized Ayurvedic remedies. In India today, there are Ayurvedic medical schools training physicians in internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, toxicology & gerontology." (Pavani)
Living an Ayruvedic lifestyle means establishing routines that keep you at your most prime state. What a thought right? Perhaps if we used food as medicine and took care of the body mind and soul on the regular- we would have a healthier collective consciousness. I grew up in the Midwest under the care of essentially just my Mother. I love her to the moon and back but our nutritional balance as children was SO OFF. As most Americans (especially single mothers) are ALWAYS working harder than they need to just to feed the family. So naturally oven heated food and sugar coated labels enter the household.
Ayruveda will help you develop practices that prime your body for digestion and use food as medicine! Disease exist on a spectrum and Ayruvedic practices will teach you how to rid your body of toxins (also known as Ama) so that you can vibrate at your highest frequency. That's exactly what we are going to break down together in this blog!
Ayruveda looks at the three Doshas,...Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Your body resides somewhere within the equilibrium of these doshas. I for example am currently a heavy Vata person. I need to balance my Vata dosha as I have too much going on! The cool thing about your dosha is that is fluctuates- its changes and dances between vata, pitta, and kapha and flows in and out of balance. Things like the seasons, our daily choices, mindset, and self care can affect the balance of our doshas.
For me , my relationship to Ayruveda is new. What I do know, is when I live my life in a way that allows my vital life force to pulse through me.... I am more healthy. This involves my daily routine, what I eat, how I sleep, how I take care of my skin, hair, nails, how much water I drink.. etc. The point of Ayruveda is to be in touch with your intuition and your inner being.. that means LISTENING to the body, and CARING for the body.
When I got into my car accident in February and discovered that I was severely deficient in vitamins, and my body was malnourished.. I knew that I lost touch with my embodiment. I tend to connect with a lot of people on the topic of Ayruveda- even though I am not a medical practicer- the research I do makes me aware that most people have similar problems when it comes to connecting to the body TRUSTING that things will be alright. We are natural beings- we have a natural force that knows how to take care of us... just like the bee, or the mountain lion. We just need to tap back into this knowledge and surrender to it- allowing this natural life force to take care of us.

Next week I will be providing just a Dosha specific article!
