About Emileaves Apothecary Shoppe: Mission: Emileaves Apothecary is a community based herbalism project. I wanted to find a place where I could share both my love of glass, and my love of plant medicine and holistic healing. My mission is provide my customers with both healing apothecary products such as teas, soaking salts, salves, lotions, perfumes, and body oils, for everyday use. I started my plant knowledge journey in 2017 working at a local Greenhouse called Felly's Flowers. At Felly's I worked with the horticulturist named Abdullah who began teaching me about herbalism, the medicine behind plants, and how to harvest and forage from nature. I started crafting my own body products at the age of 17, and have been using handmade body care ever since. I then attended college twice and got my BFA and MFA in Craft and Material Studies- specifically glassworking. In 2020, I took a full herbalist and aromatherapy course and interned under Laura's Botanicals out of Richmond, VA. Holistic Healing: I believe that the earth provides us with everything we need to heal- both internally and externally. Using the traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayruvedic and Materia Medica Plant perspectives- I craft my botanical products to heal with much deeper affects than just aroma. I strive to provide both the physical product for use- but also provide knowledge on traditional plant uses, holistic healing methods and sustainable home living. Custom Apothecary Glass: Sustainability is at the forefront of my practice. Being a glassworker- this means I work specifically on a torch to make my handblown glass. In large scale factories, glass is typically made with "bottle machines" this means that molten glass is always kept up to temperature (approx 2100 degree fahrenheit) and gathered by the machine to be dropped into a mold. Due to the factory machinery- this means hundreds of bottles can be made at a time for mass production. While this can be great for creating the amount of bottles that society uses, this isn't a lucrative system for a small business, nor is is a sustainable use of glass! RECYCLE PROJECT: ***CALL TO ACTION*** I am looking to collect ANY AND ALL old apothecary bottles that are made of glass. Have you finished a recent facial serum, or perfume roll on? SEND IT MY WAY- I use all old glass for future artistic projects! These bottles will be melted down into molds and reshaped into a new form! I will have a drop off box at EVERY market I vend, so feel free to bring old glass by (clean or not, I will take care of the cleaning!)
